Choose a turkey that fits your guest list.
Turn the number of turkey eaters into purchase pounds, whole birds, cooked meat, and a deliberate leftovers plan.

The selected rate is purchase weight per turkey eater. Another main reduces turkey eaters; leftovers and buffer are visible additions.
- A whole turkey commonly starts at 1 to 1.25 pounds per eater; use 1.5 pounds as a hearty baseline only when the separate leftovers setting is understood.
- The cooked-meat comparison uses 40% of whole-bird purchase weight, 60% for bone-in breast, and 75% for boneless breast. These are conservative planning estimates, not guaranteed yields.
- For breast selections, the whole-bird count means packages of the selected average size.
- Cook turkey to 165°F in the thickest breast and innermost thigh and wing, and refrigerate leftovers within two hours.
